The County General

On a Tuesday night back in October, we headed over to the County General after checking out the Showoff store fronts in the Junction. Settling into our recently vacated spot in an otherwise packed restaurant, we started with the Figgy Dew – because the components sounded interesting, and I found the name amusing. A found it tasted best with a bite of the dried fig garnish and a sip of the cocktail in the same mouthful.

As a lover of all non-puree soups (too often the only soup on the menu), ordering the white bean, ham & mustard was a no-brainer. Larger that I expected, the soup was delicious with tender pork and beans spiced with mustard and cilantro. The soup tasted vaguely Asian, but that’s likely due to my familiarity of the ingredients (cilantro, pork, clear broth) often used in Asian dishes.

A ordered the burger, which was of the rounder/thicker variety, but quite small in size. The burger came with nicely spiced fries and home-made ketchup. A liked the burger but felt mislead that the burger was slider sized.

The clear winner of the night was the fried chicken thigh sandwich. It arrived on a slice of bread rather than a bun (which I actually prefer) and was perfect. Fried Chicken. Guacamole. Cilantro. Onions. I love each individually and together they were an amazing few bites.

We left quite happy with the meal but wishing we had ordered a few extra chicken sandwiches!
